# Android – Bluetooth, notification and background permissions

# Setting up the Kardena app correctly on Android

To ensure your Kardena smartwatch can stay connected to your Android smartphone at all times, the app requires various permissions.

Missing permissions can lead to connection drops, missed notifications or synchronisation issues.

## 1. Bluetooth and nearby devices

Go to:
**Settings → Apps → [app you're using] → Permissions**
Grant the necessary permissions for Bluetooth and **nearby devices**.

> ℹ️ **Note:**
> The exact wording depends on your Android version and smartphone manufacturer.

## 2. Notification access

For messages from WhatsApp and other apps to be shown on your smartwatch, the smartwatch app may need access to your smartphone's notifications.
Look for the following in your settings:

**Notification access**
and check that access is enabled for the app you're using.

## 3. Allow background activity

The app must be able to remain active in the background to ensure a reliable connection to the smartwatch.

Check the settings for:

* Background activity
* Battery optimisation
* Power saving
* Autostart, if available

> ⚠️ **Important:**
> If the app is automatically closed by your smartphone, notifications and synchronisation may stop working, even though Bluetooth remains switched on.

## 4. Enable Notifications within the app

Next, open the smartwatch app and choose which apps are allowed to send notifications to your Kardena smartwatch.

For example:
* WhatsApp
* SMS / Messages
* Phone
* Email
* Messenger

## 5. Location permission

Depending on your Android version, smartwatch model and the app you're using, location permission may be required for certain Bluetooth or additional features.
If the app requests this permission during setup, check that it's been granted correctly.

## 6. Check your smartphone manufacturer

Some manufacturers use additional power-saving and app management features.

> 💡 **Troubleshooting Tip:**
> If the connection works again immediately after opening the app, the app is most likely being restricted in the background. In this case, check your battery and background settings first.
