# Updating Kardena smartwatch’s firmware

# Updating your Kardena smartwatch's firmware

Firmware updates can improve functionality, fix bugs and optimise the compatibility of your Kardena smartwatch.

## Before updating

Before you start the update:

* Charge the smartwatch sufficiently.
* Make sure your smartphone is also sufficiently charged.
* Place the smartwatch near your smartphone.
* Keep Bluetooth switched on.
* Keep the app open during the update.

> ⚠️ **Important:**
> Don't switch off your smartphone or smartwatch during a firmware update, and don't intentionally interrupt the Bluetooth connection.

## Starting the firmware update

1. Open the app for your Kardena smartwatch.
2. Open the device or smartwatch settings.
3. Look for **"Firmware,"** **"Firmware Update,"** or **"Device Update."**
4. Check whether a new version is available.
5. Start the update.
6. Wait until the process has been fully completed.

## During the update

The smartwatch may be temporarily unresponsive or restart automatically during the process.

> ℹ️ **Note:**
> An automatic restart during or after a firmware update is usually nothing to worry about.

## Failed firmware update

If the update cannot be completed:

1. Charge the smartwatch sufficiently again.
2. Restart your smartphone and smartwatch.
3. Re-establish the Bluetooth connection.
4. Open the app.
5. Start the update again.

> ⛔ **Do not factory reset during the update:**
> Don't carry out a factory reset while a firmware update is in progress.
