# Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO – Troubleshooting connection issues

# Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO – Connection issues with the Kardena smartwatch

On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones, power-saving and background functions can interfere with the connection to your Kardena smartwatch.

Typical issues include:
* the smartwatch losing connection
* WhatsApp messages not appearing
* calls not being shown
* data only syncing when you open the app

> ℹ️ **Note:**
> Menu names may vary depending on your smartphone model and the installed MIUI or HyperOS version.

## 1. Turn on Bluetooth

Make sure that Bluetooth is always turned on.
Then open the app for your Kardena smartwatch and check the connection status.

## 2. Allow background activity

Open the app info for the app you're using and check the settings for **Battery** or **Power saving**.
Make sure the app is allowed to run in the background.

## 3. Check auto-start

If your smartphone offers a setting for **Auto-start** or **Background auto-start**, enable this for the app you are using.
This allows the app to run automatically in the background again after the smartphone has been restarted.

## 4. Check app permissions

Grant the necessary permissions, in particular:
* Bluetooth / nearby devices
* Notifications
* Background activity
* location, if applicable

## 5. Check notification access

Ensure that the app you are using is allowed to access notifications.
Then, within the app, enable the apps you want to see notifications from on your smartwatch.

> ⚠️ **Important:**
> Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices can restrict apps in the background fairly heavily. A working Bluetooth pairing alone therefore doesn't automatically mean notifications will keep being delivered reliably.

## 6. Restart your devices

Restart your smartphone and smartwatch, then check the connection again.

> 💡 **Tip:**
> If everything works again as soon as you open the app, this strongly suggests the app was previously closed or restricted in the background by your smartphone.
