How to activate the SOS function
Setting up and using the SOS Feature
The SOS function available on selected Kardena products allows you to quickly contact your saved trusted contacts in an emergency.
⚠️ Important: The SOS feature is an additional safety feature and does not replace the public emergency number 112. For the models described here, a connected smartphone is required to transmit or trigger the SOS alert.
🆘 How does the SOS function work?
The operation varies depending on the Kardena model.
CARE Pro 6
With the CARE Pro 6, you can save up to 5 SOS contacts.
To trigger an SOS alarm:
- Press and hold the relevant button on the watch for approximately 3 seconds.
- A 5-second countdown will start on the watch.
- Once the countdown has finished, the SOS alarm is triggered.
- An SOS message including your location is sent to your saved contacts via the connected smartphone.
💡 The countdown gives you the chance to cancel an accidental activation in time.
CARE Pro 5
With the CARE Pro 5, you can add up to 3 trusted contacts for the SOS function.
To trigger the SOS alert, press and hold the relevant button for approximately 3 seconds.
After the 5-second countdown, a message with your location is sent to your saved trusted contacts via the connected smartphone.
CARE Vital 2
With the CARE Vital 2, the SOS alert works differently:
- Tap the side button three times in quick succession.
- The SOS feature is activated.
- The connected smartphone calls the saved SOS contact.
With this model, a call is made to the saved contact rather than the message being sent as with the CARE Pro 5 and CARE Pro 6.
⚙️ Setting up SOS contacts
SOS contacts are set up via the smartphone app for the respective Kardena product.
Open the app and look for SOS, emergency contact or trusted contacts in the device settings.
Enter the desired contacts there and save the settings.
Depending on the model, you can save the following number of contacts:
- CARE Pro 6: up to 5 contacts
- CARE Pro 5: up to 3 contacts
- CARE Vital 2: One SOS contact for the emergency call
📱 Your smartphone must be connected
The SOS feature on these models works only with the connected smartphone.
For the SOS alert to work properly, please make sure in particular that:
- the smartphone is switched on,
- Bluetooth is enabled,
- the watch and smartphone are connected to each other,
- the Kardena app or the relevant product app is set up correctly,
- the necessary app permissions have been granted,
- location services are enabled, if the location is to be transmitted,
- the smartphone has a mobile or internet connection, where required for this function.
⚠️ If the smartphone is out of range or there's no connection, the SOS feature may not work at all or may not work properly.
📍 Where does the transmitted location come from?
For models that send a location along with the SOS message, the function works in conjunction with the paired smartphone.
For the most reliable location detection possible, the smartphone's location services should be enabled and the required app permissions granted.
Indoors, with poor GPS reception, or with a limited data connection, location detection may be less accurate.
🧪 Testing the SOS function after setup
We strongly recommend testing the SOS feature together with your saved trusted contacts right after setting it up.
Let the recipients know beforehand that you're carrying out a test.
Then check the following:
- Was the SOS alert triggered?
- Did the saved contacts receive the message or call?
- Was the location transmitted (on supported models)?
- Are the contact details correct?
💡 Our tip: Repeat the test from time to time, especially after changing your smartphone, reinstalling the app or making major changes to your smartphone settings.
❗ Is SOS feature not working?
Please check the following first:
- Is Bluetooth enabled?
- Is the Kardena product connected to the smartphone?
- Are the SOS contacts saved correctly?
- Does the app have the necessary permissions?
- Are location services enabled?
- Is there a mobile or internet connection?
- Are the smartphone and watch within sufficient range of each other?
If the problem persists, restart your smartphone and Kardena product, then test the feature again.
⚠️ It is not a substitute for the emergency services
Kardena's SOS feature is intended as additional support in everyday life.
It is not a substitute for a professional home emergency call system, a medical emergency call system or, in particular, the public emergency number 112.
In the event of a serious medical emergency, you should call 112 (or the relevant emergency number for the country you are in) directly, wherever possible.
In a life-threatening situation, do not rely solely on the SOS function of a wearable device.
